Eight Ways to Increase the Kerb Appeal of your Home
They say that looks aren’t everything. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth when talking about your home. For the uninitiated, ‘kerb appeal’ is a term used to describe the attractiveness of your home to prospective buyers based on their first impressions. The interior could be sparkling but if a house has poor kerb appeal it can drastically affect the property value.
Fortunately, there are lots of ways to improve the kerb appeal of your home-it doesn’t have to cost the earth either. Take a look at our list below.
Add Some Foliage
A few strategically placed potted plants can make your home look a lot more inviting even if you don’t have a front garden. They don’t have to be real either-a lot of artificial plants look authentic and do not require any maintenance.
If you do have a front lawn, make sure the grass is mown regularly to keep it short and tidy. An untidy garden is a definite no-no if you’re looking to increase kerb appeal.
Upgrade Your Front Door
Don’t worry about a replacement front door just yet if your current one is looking a bit worse for wear. If you have a wooden door then a fresh lick of paint may be all that’s required to make it looking as good as new. Make sure it’s a classic colour though, bright or garish colours would turn the majority of people off.
Even composite doors can be cleaned to restore their former glory. Don’t forget the letterboxes and door knockers too!
Driveways & Patios
A thorough clean with a pressure washer may be all that’s required to get your driveway, patio or decking looking good.
Install an Entrance Gate
Live in a country house or have a long driveway? Having an entrance gate is a must. However, make sure you choose a gate which reflects the period your home was built. For example, a wrought iron-gate would be ideal for a new property.
Clean Your Windows
Sounds obvious but so easy to forget! Grubby windows and sills look unsightly and implies a messy interior. First impressions are everything so grab a cloth (or phone a window cleaner) and make those panes sparkle.
Do It Yourself
Crooked door number? Gate hanging off the hinges? Doorbell doesn’t work? They sound trivial but can soon pile up. Make sure you’re increasing kerb appeal by fixing all the little things around your home.
Check Your Roof Tiles
The roof is one of the first things you notice so replace any individual tiles that are cracked or missing. Not only will this increase kerb appeal but prevent leaking.
If your entire roof needs to be replaced then make sure you choose the highest quality materials possible. It will save you money in the long run.
De-clutter
Nobody wants to see yesterday’s left overs so hide your bins away if possible. Also, make sure all gardening tools and equipment are stored to give your exterior a more spacious look.
